MAKE GHANA MUSIC DAY MEMORABLE – MERQURY QUAYE
Ghana DJ
Awards founder and hypeman, Merqury Quaye, has
added his voice to the call for 100 percent airplay of Ghanaian tunes at
all music
platforms including radio stations, night clubs and pubs across the
country today
Saturday March 2 and has charged Ghanaian DJs to seize the opportunity
to make the day a memorable one by exhibiting their skills with music
made in Ghana throughout the day.
The call comes in the wake of declaration by The Musicians
Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture
and Creative Arts, that Saturday, 2nd March, 2013 be observed as Ghana Music
Day.
“The phenomenon must be felt across the land. It would also
be great to dig into achieves and libraries and set a tone for nostalgia at a
point in time and steadily progress to today’s music to paint a picture of the
musical journey so far”, Merqury added.
Entertainment houses that use music as part of their
services are expected to play only Ghanaian music. If they happen to want to play
slow paced music, the Ghanaian authentic slow pace highlife will come in handy.
The hiplife and hiphop beats and dancehall tunes will come in handy for the
party folks while the atenteben, and other traditional tunes will hopefully
bring back smiles on the faces of the elderly while teaching the young ones a
thing or two about a different aspect of our music is organizing the first ever
edition of Ghana Music Week festival dubbed; "Engaging Music as a catalyst
for Unity and National Growth" in Accra at the National Theater for the
period spanning March 4 – 10, 2013.
